Femur Mandala by Emily Blumer
Emily Blumer is a Bay Area ecological artist, naturalist, and educator. She uses bones from raptor pellets found on neighborhood walks to create intricate mandalas.
The border of this mandala is overlapping rows of femurs, with curved teeth providing the corners. Vertebrae and ulnas make up the interior details, with the skulls of meadow voles as the stand out centerpieces.
This piece is framed with gallery glass to protect from UV rays for archival preservation. It measures 12 x 12", and comes with information and identification of the bones within. Because of the delicacy of the bones, this piece is pick-up only and can not be shipped.
