Echinacea Scalloped Vase by Deb Sullivan
Deb Sullivan strives to create at the intersection where function meets art. Her vibrant pottery begins with a hand-rolled slab of clay. After each slab is formed into a vessel, the vessel is adorned with newsprint transfers, underglazes, washes and glaze. Deb's pottery is lined with a glaze she formulated herself, and is dishwasher and microwave safe.
Her designs are built in reverse with slips and underglazes on paper, then rolled onto her ceramics. She leaves the creases from the application process visible as part of the design, and emphasizes the joining seam of the clay with a row of impressions resembling stitches. This vase measures 8" in height, 3.5" in diameter at its opening and 4.75" in diameter at its base.
