Sapele and Birdseye Maple Box by Patrick Schmitz

Working primarily with salvaged and found wood, Patrick Schmitz embraces natural irregularities—knots, cracks, and live edges—as essential elements of each piece he makes. His practice balances technical discipline with the spontaneity of the material, creating a dialogue between control and discovery. Each piece Patrick makes is made to be used, gathering wear and meaning as part of its ongoing life.

This larger box is turned from sapele (a sustainable African mahogany) with a birdseye maple lid and a finial made of boxwood. It is finished with oil and food-safe wax and measures about 6" in diameter and 4.25" in height including the finial.
